Materials and Care
Care guidance for every finish
Crown Hardware door handles and architectural hardware are made to look good for years. A little routine care keeps every finish performing at its best, from Matt Black to Antique Brass.
Finishes and details
Each piece is built from solid, corrosion-resistant metal and finished in one of six colours. Here is how each one behaves and how to look after it.
Matt Black
A flat, low-sheen surface that suits modern and industrial interiors.
- Clean with
- A soft, damp microfibre cloth, then dry.
- Avoid
- Hard rubbing, which can burnish matt surfaces and leave shiny patches.
Matt White
A clean, soft finish that blends into light and minimal spaces.
- Clean with
- A soft, damp cloth. Mild soapy water for marks.
- Avoid
- Abrasive pads and strong cleaners, which can dull or stain the finish.
Satin Brass Gold
A warm, brushed gold with a soft glow rather than a mirror shine.
- Clean with
- Mild soap and water, wiped along the grain.
- Avoid
- Brass polish, which can strip the satin finish.
Satin Brushed Nickel
A cool, understated metal that pairs with almost any palette.
- Clean with
- A soft cloth, wiping in the direction of the brushed grain.
- Avoid
- Steel wool and scouring pads, which scratch the surface.
Brushed Gun Metal
A deep, smoky grey with a fine brushed texture. It hides daily wear well.
- Clean with
- A soft, damp cloth, wiped along the grain.
- Avoid
- Metal polishes and abrasive cleaners.
Antique Brass
A darker, aged tone with character. It may soften naturally with handling.
- Clean with
- A soft, dry or barely damp cloth.
- Avoid
- Polishing. It removes the aged look you chose it for.
Care instructions
- Wipe with a soft, damp microfibre cloth.
- Dry straight away to prevent water marks.
- Use mild soapy water for stubborn marks.
- Expect fingerprints on dark and brushed finishes. A light wipe is all they need.
Please avoid
- Bleach and household abrasives.
- Steel wool and scouring pads.
- Solvents and acidic cleaners.
- Chrome, brass or metal polishes, which can strip or discolour the finish.
Coastal and high-use areas
Hardware near the coast, in bathrooms and around pools should be rinsed with fresh water and dried every month or so. This removes salt and moisture that can dull finishes over time.
